Getting back into an exercise routine as a parent is hard—especially when little kids, sleepless nights, and endless responsibilities take priority. In today’s episode, we dive into the struggle of finding consistency with fitness after having kids and why so many dads put their health on the back burner.
We sit down with my co-host, Travis, a father of three with a new baby at home, as he shares his turning point—the moment he said enough is enough. We break down the different seasons of parenthood and how they impact our ability to carve out time for exercise, plus real, practical ways to actually get back into a routine.

What happens when parents get rare, precious free time?
In today’s episode, we kick things off with a fun chat about coffee—home brewing etiquette, our do’s and don’ts, and our favorite coffee spots in Southern and Northern California.
But the real heart of the conversation? Free time as parents.
We dive into the big question: If you had a full day with your spouse and no kids, how would you spend it? From traveling to a new city to relaxing at home with a book, we explore what makes that time meaningful, how to avoid adding stress, and why there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
Pour yourself a cup and join the conversation about coffee, connection, and making the most of those rare parenting breaks.

Being a dad means wearing a lot of hats—but let’s be real, it’s not always easy to juggle family, work, and self-care. In today’s episode, we dive into overcoming challenges as dads, breaking the cycle of excuses, and finding ways to follow through when starting something new feels easier than finishing it.
We also reflect on how fatherly communication has evolved—from “actions speak louder than words” to understanding the value of vulnerability. Sometimes, your kids need to see the human side of you (Clark Kent) instead of the hero (Superman).

This isn't the first episode as much as a coaching call that turned into a "what if" session.
We started off talking about how we combat "dad brain" (forgetting things and having a hard time recalling things), and scenarios we get ourselves into. Then we quickly found ourselves thinking about sharing our discussions with you.
Thus the creation of Dads in Real life.
We see a lot of "influencer" dads online that remind us that we need to work out and how to be head of the household, but we didn't find a lot of dads in our season of life (Travis with three kids under 5 and Robert with three kids over 5) sharing stories. So we decided to start recording our calls and all the various topics dads talk about. Plus being a decade apart in age we have different points of view and life experiences as well.
So here we are, two dads in real life (work-from-home dads), that talk weekly about topics that concern us in our season of life.
We Hope you can learn, laugh, and lounge with us as we chat about everything and nothing at all.
